Dr. M. Sean Freeman and his staff offer a wide variety of non-invasive, non-surgical office treatments to enhance your appearance. Injectable fillers are perhaps some of the most versatile of these treatments and can accomplish several aesthetic goals. Although the procedure is non-surgical, to get the most from your treatment with injectable fillers such as RADIESSE®, a mastery of technique is required. North Carolina facial plastic surgeon Dr. Freeman is an ideal choice for a physician to perform these injections. His many years of experience with injectable fillers enable him to choose the best product for each patient and to give each patient the very best results.
Patients who choose Dr. Freeman at The Center for Facial Plastic and Laser Surgery are choosing a physician who has specialized in lasers and facial cosmetic surgery since 1988. Treatment with injectable fillers is quick, comfortable and there is little or no downtime. Fillers are frequently used for improvement of "smile lines" (nasolabial folds), enhancement in the shape of the lip, or improvement in the appearance of scars.
For those patients who do not wish to have face lift surgery but want to see an improvement in the signs of aging, a liquid face lift is an alternative. Advantages include the ease of this being done in our office without sedation during your initial visit. Downtime is minimal although you may have some bruising and will have noticeable swelling for 3 to 5 days.
The main drawback to the liquid face lift method is the need for repeat treatments every year or so. Also, patients should not expect results that are as dramatic as those produced surgically. The areas addressed typically include the perioral area, the lower eyelid area, the cheek bone and along the jaw near the jowls. RADIESSE is Dr. Freeman's filler of choice for this procedure although he will occasionally use a hyaluronic acid product near the vermillion of the lips.
You can find more information about the fillers we offer below. A thorough consultation will help determine the type of filler that will be best for you.
Dr. Freeman uses medical grade injectable silicone to help patients who have mildly depressed scars, commonly caused by acne or accidents. The advantage of injectable silicone is that it gives a permanent improvement. Scar enhancement with silicone must be done slowly using a micro-droplet technique. There are no known contraindications to this product.
RADIESSE is an FDA-approved injectable product for the filling of folds, lines, scars and wrinkles. RADIESSE can also be used for a "liquid facelift", a procedure that provides 3D rejuvenation of the face without surgery. The advantage of this product is the potential for long-lasting results, at times being reported to be as long as 18 to 24 months. RADIESSE consists of calcium hydroxylapatite suspended in gel (carbo-xymethylcellulose). Because calcium hydroxylapatite is a normal constituent of bone, it has not been reported to cause an inflammatory or immune response.
Additionally, the gel carrier doesn't require allergy testing, as may be the case with collagen. Dr. Freeman has found this product to provide excellent results with minimal side effects. Due to his experience using this product, Dr. Freeman is a part of the company's medical education faculty.
Dr. Freeman has found Restylane to be an excellent choice for his Charlotte, NC patients who want soft tissue enhancement, especially if they are unsure about how injectable fillers will improve their appearance. Restylane and other hyaluronic acid products are particularly useful for enhancement of the shape of the lips. Restylane is a crystal-clear, biodegradable NASHA (Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid) gel, which is injected into the dermis in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The results of Restylane are reported to last 6 to 8 months and there is no known allergic component.
Perlane® is a filler that is very similar to Restylane and is made by the same manufacturer. The difference between Perlane and Restylane is that Perlane contains larger particles of hyaluronic acid and can be injected deeper within the skin.
SCULPTRA® is made with poly-L-lactic acid, unlike other injectable fillers that are made with substances such as hyaluronic acid. Because it is made differently, it can actually stimulate collagen growth for gradual, prolonged volume enhancement. The disadvantage of this product is that it requires multiple injections over time with volume improving slowly.
CosmoPlast™ is made with purified human collagen and can be used to reduce fine lines, especially around the mouth. Unlike products made with bovine collagen, it does not require an allergy test.
For patients who would like to see improvement in fine lines and wrinkles, there may be other techniques that work better than soft tissue fillers. We recommend several different laser options, BOTOX® Cosmetic and aesthetician services to treat fine lines and wrinkles. The best treatment for you will be decided during your consultation.
